The 45-year old Southlake resident was cleaning out closets in May when an otherwise normal bending motion created a small popping sound and a sharp pain spread down her left leg.

“I was in horrible pain and wasn’t able to walk,” Compas said, who’s an interior designer.

At first, she thought it was a minor sciatic nerve issue, but it turned out to be a ruptured lumbar disc. She made an appointment to see Jeff Phelps, MD, medical director of the spine program at Medical City North Hills.

“A Pep in My Step!” 
I’ve been a patient of Dr. Phelps and his gracious staff since 2009. I had degenerative spondylotic disc bulges located in my cervical (C5-6) and Lumbar region (L4-5) of the spine. At times, the pain was unbearable that I had to put certain aspects of my life on hold. Dr. Phelps and his staff immediately began a thorough regiment to safely and quickly help and treat my condition.  During this time, Dr. Phelps and his staff treated me and my wife with the utmost care and patience by explaining, in laymen terms, all the medical exams and processess that I would have – and why.  I am please to say that with the execellent expertise of Dr. Phelps, his Physician’s Assistant, and his energetic staff, I now have greater mobility and might I say, a pep in my step that I thought I would not see again! – D.
